Leaking taps can be caused by a number of issues. The most common problems are:
- Failed mixer cartridge
- Broken or worn tap washers, O-rings or fibre washers
- Failure and corrosion on the brass seat where the washer sits
- Incorrectly sealed tapware
We often don’t bother with what we think is a simple leaking tap but the consequences can be dyer. Delaying this small plumbing repair can cause more problems and increase your water usage – sometimes resulting in an excess water bill! In fact, a leaking tap can waste up to 20,000 litres of water per year. This is significant especially as Geelong and the Surf Coast continues to be water wise.
It may be tempting to try and fix the issue yourself, however, you may risk further damaging the tapware or brass seats without the correct tools and skills. We recommend using a licensed plumber when operating on your tapware to ensure the job is completed correctly and attracts a workmanship warranty.
